The Benefits of Chiropractic Wellness Care

Written By Levinson Chiropractic & Vax-D Therapy on January 15, 2018

Many people associate going to the chiropractor with being treated for pain or symptoms of discomfort, but did you know that just as many people go to their chiropractor for wellness care?

Sandy Springs Chiropractic provides wellness care to patients and clients. Chiropractic wellness care is similar to other types of wellness – or preventative – care, such as maintaining a healthy diet, regular exercise, and proactive screenings like mammograms and colonoscopy.

The difference with chiropractic wellness is that it is primarily centered on a calm and efficient nervous system.

What Exactly Is Chiropractic Wellness Care?

The central nervous system controls almost all functions of the human mind and body. Comprised of the spinal cord and the brain, it transmits information from various parts of the body to the brain, which then interprets that information and sends messages back down the spine to move an arm or leg or respond to the environment.

When something is misaligned in the spine, the central nervous system sends a message to the brain that something is not right. That can be perceived as pain, stress, tension, fatigue, or other neurological imbalances.

Regular chiropractic care can help keep the spine well aligned so that movement of the body and transmission of information to the brain can be facilitated.

How Does Chiropractic Wellness Care Work?

Imagine pain in your lower back as a result of one of the vertebrae being out of alignment. This pain causes you to walk with an exaggerated or unnatural gait, or to sit in a manner that reduces pressure on the afflicted area.

These abnormal movements create stress on the spine. This in turn sends a message up the spinal cord to the brain, which responds by protecting the painful area with swelling or other chemical responses. Hence, pain is manifested.

Chronic pain can lead to depression, anxiety, and fatigue, which can in turn lead to illness and disease in the body.

Regularly adjusting the spine to optimize movement and address alignment issues proactively can create a physical environment that cultivates maximum health, reduces symptoms of stress or tension, decreases the likelihood of depression, and maximizes positive health and lifestyle choices.
